Quick answer
What does Citywide's post-construction cleaning include?
Citywide Maintenance Services cleans commercial spaces in Manhattan and across New York City after construction. Work typically covers removing construction dust from every surface, clearing remaining light debris, cleaning interior windows and glass, removing stickers and labels, cleaning fixtures, cabinetry and restrooms, and finishing floors. Cleaning can be phased as rough, final and touch-up visits to match the project schedule.
What a construction site leaves behind
Even a well-run job ends with fine dust on every ledge, inside light fixtures and on top of door frames. There are footprints and adhesive on new floors, paint specks and manufacturer labels on glass, and residue on fixtures nobody has used yet. None of this is the trades’ job to fix, and all of it is visible at turnover.
Post-construction cleaning closes that gap. Done properly, it lets the owner, tenant or store team walk into a space that looks finished, and it keeps the last days of a project focused on the punch list rather than on dust. It also gives the inspector, the landlord’s representative and the client a fair look at the finished work.
Typical cleaning phases on a commercial project
Most commercial projects are cleaned in stages. These are common industry phases; we set the actual sequence with your project manager.
| Phase | When it happens | What it focuses on |
|---|---|---|
| Rough clean | After major trades finish, before finishes are complete | Debris and bulk dust removal, sweeping, clearing work areas |
| Final clean | When finishes are installed, before inspection or turnover | Detailed dusting top to bottom, glass, fixtures, cabinetry, restrooms, floors |
| Touch-up clean | After punch-list work, just before move-in or opening | Dust and marks left by final fixes, floors, entrances, last details |
What a final clean usually covers
- High and low dusting: ledges, vents, light fixtures, door frames and baseboards
- Interior windows, glass partitions, storefront glass and mirrors
- Removing stickers, labels and protective film from glass and fixtures
- Cleaning paint specks and residue from hard surfaces where safe to do so
- Restrooms and pantries: fixtures, counters, cabinetry inside and out
- Vacuuming carpets and cleaning hard floors
- Wiping doors, hardware, switches and outlets
- Clearing remaining light debris and packaging
Working inside Manhattan building rules
In a Manhattan building, logistics often matter as much as the cleaning itself.
Freight elevator and dock
We schedule equipment and debris movement around reserved freight elevator times and loading dock rules.
Insurance paperwork
Citywide is bonded and carries full liability and workers' compensation insurance. We provide certificates of insurance for building approval.
After-hours work
Crews are available around the clock, so cleaning can happen at night or on weekends when buildings require it.
Occupied floors nearby
Our crews respect quiet hours, protect common corridors and keep dust from travelling to neighboring tenants.
How we work with GCs and project managers
- 01
Site walk
We walk the space with the GC or PM, review the schedule and confirm the phases and turnover date.
- 02

You receive an upfront proposal for each phase, with no hidden fees.
- 03
Phased cleaning
Crews return as trades clear out, working from detailed checklists for each phase.
- 04
Punch-list support
We walk the finished space with you, address cleaning items on the punch list and touch up after final fixes.
Our own crews from rough clean to turnover
Every Citywide cleaner is a Citywide employee, background-checked and trained in our procedures. We do not subcontract any of our work, which means the crew that started the rough clean is accountable for the final result. Our post-construction cleaning checklist outlines what to plan for on an NYC project.
After turnover, the space can move straight into a recurring program such as office cleaning or janitorial services, with floor care to protect new finishes. For retail openings, storefront window cleaning and entrance power washing can be scheduled for the days before doors open, so the first customers see the space the way it was designed.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Straight answers to the questions facility and office managers ask us most.
Have a question that is not here? Call (917) 842-4644 or request a proposal.
When should we book post-construction cleaning?
As early as possible, ideally when the project schedule is set. Booking ahead lets us plan rough, final and touch-up visits around trade completion, inspections and freight elevator availability.
Do you remove construction debris?
Post-construction cleaning covers light debris, packaging and dust left after the trades. Bulk construction waste and dumpsters are usually handled by the GC; we confirm the split in the proposal so nothing falls between contractors.
Can you work nights and weekends?
Yes. Citywide crews are available around the clock, so we can clean outside business hours when the building or the project schedule requires it.
Can you provide a certificate of insurance for the building?
Yes. Citywide is bonded and carries full liability and workers' compensation insurance. Send us the building's certificate requirements and we will provide the paperwork before work starts.
What is the difference between post-construction and post-renovation cleaning?
Post-construction cleaning usually happens in an empty space before turnover. Post-renovation cleaning is for spaces that stay open or occupied while work happens, which needs more phasing and protection.
