Quick answer
What is post-renovation cleaning?
Post-renovation cleaning is cleanup after renovation work in a space that is still operating. Citywide Maintenance Services handles it for Manhattan and New York City offices, stores, salons, clinics and other businesses, removing renovation dust and residue area by area, cleaning surfaces, glass, fixtures and floors, and resetting spaces for use. It also covers commercial move-in and move-out cleaning.
Why renovation cleanup is different in an open business
When a floor is renovated while the rest of the office keeps working, or a store refreshes one department at a time, the cleaning cannot wait for a single turnover date. Dust migrates past the work zone. Staff need the finished section back on Monday. Customers walk past the area that was closed last week and judge what they see.
Post-renovation cleaning in an occupied space is about sequence and restraint: cleaning the right area at the right time, keeping noise and chemicals away from people who are working, and handing back each phase ready for use. It is a different job from cleaning an empty site before turnover, which we cover under post-construction cleaning.
Common renovation situations we plan for
| Situation | What the cleaning plan focuses on |
|---|---|
| Office floor or suite renovated in sections | Cleaning each finished section after hours so teams can move back in the next morning |
| Retail refresh while the store stays open | Overnight cleaning of fixtures, glass and floors before the store opens |
| Salon, spa or clinic remodel | Low-odor products and thorough dust removal from treatment and waiting areas |
| Restaurant or pantry upgrade | Kitchen surfaces, equipment exteriors and dining areas ready for service |
| Tenant move-in or move-out | Empty-space cleaning of floors, fixtures, cabinets and restrooms at handover |
How we phase the work
The plan follows your contractor’s sequence, not the other way around.
- 01
Walkthrough and schedule
We review the renovation phases, the areas staying in use and when each section must be ready.
- 02
Written scope
You receive an upfront proposal for each phase, with no hidden fees, so budgets stay predictable.
- 03
Clean each phase
As the contractor releases an area, our crew cleans it top to bottom, usually at night or before opening.
- 04
Check the adjacent areas
We clean the corridors, reception and occupied rooms next to the work, where dust tends to settle.
- 05
Final reset
When work ends, we do a final clean across the whole space and hand it back for normal use.
Where renovation dust hides
Dust from cutting, sanding and demolition travels further than most people expect. A thorough clean checks:
High surfaces
Tops of partitions, door frames, shelving, light fixtures and vents, where dust settles out of sight.
Workstations and equipment
Desks, monitors, phones, retail fixtures and displays in and around the work zone, cleaned with care.
Glass and partitions
Interior glass, storefront windows and mirrors that show film and fingerprints after trades pass through.
Floors and entrances
Hard floors, carpets and walk-off mats that carry dust from the work area into the rest of the space.
Protecting day-to-day operations
In an operating business, how the cleaning is done matters as much as the result.
- Scheduling dusty and noisy tasks outside business hours
- Day, night and weekend crews available, so phases do not stall
- Environmentally friendly, lower-odor products near staff and customers
- Careful cleaning of workstations, retail fixtures and equipment
- Fresh walk-off mats and clean entrances during the project
- Restrooms and break rooms kept in service throughout
Move-in and move-out cleaning
Lease transitions often include renovation work on either side. Before a tenant moves in, the space needs dust from the fit-out removed and floors, glass and restrooms cleaned. When a tenant moves out, landlords and property managers usually want the space returned in clean condition before the next walkthrough. Citywide handles both, on a one-time basis or as the first step in a recurring office cleaning program.
Every crew member is a Citywide employee, background-checked, trained in our procedures and in uniform. We do not subcontract any of our work. Citywide is bonded and carries full liability and workers’ compensation insurance, which building managers typically ask to see before approving work in an occupied property.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Straight answers to the questions facility and office managers ask us most.
Have a question that is not here? Call (917) 842-4644 or request a proposal.
Can you clean while our business stays open?
Yes. Most post-renovation work in occupied spaces is done after hours or before opening. Citywide crews are available around the clock, so we schedule each phase around your operating hours and the contractor's sequence.
Will renovation dust come back after you clean?
Fine dust can resettle while work continues nearby, which is why we plan a final clean once the contractor finishes. Cleaning adjacent occupied areas during the project also helps keep dust from spreading.
Do you clean carpets and floors after a renovation?
Yes. Floors are cleaned as part of the scope, and deeper work such as carpet cleaning or hard floor and stone care can be added where renovation traffic has left them worn or soiled.
What products do you use around staff and customers?
Citywide uses environmentally friendly cleaning products in all of its work. If your space has particular sensitivities, such as a spa or medical office, tell us during the walkthrough so we plan accordingly.
Do you handle one-time move-out cleans for landlords?
Yes. We clean vacated commercial spaces on a one-time basis for property managers and landlords, and can also prepare the space for the next tenant after work is done.
